Product Description The one thing that probably discourages more people from purchasing and using cast iron is maintenance. Like carbon steel woks, cast iron cooking pieces require "seasoning." To many this is a mysterious or overly time-consuming process. Even if you treasure fond memories of eggs and pancakes cooked in grandmother's ancient, blackened skillet, you might have no idea how to turn your new pan into such a treasure. Fortunately Lodge has come out with the new Logic line, which has been evenly coated on all surfaces with an electrostatic spray of vegetable oil. Next the cookware is put into an extremely high temperature industrial oven which bakes the coating into the surface. Not only will you be spared the time and effort of seasoning, but also the new piece you buy will look and perform better than if you had seasoned it at home. Just like that heirloom pan you will find that even pineapple upside down cake doesn't stick to this surface. A large skillet, such as this one, is ideal for frying chicken or catfish or for baking a pie.
Amazon.com Review Pancakes, eggs, and bacon somehow taste extra hearty when cooked in a heavy cast-iron skillet. Cast iron creates superior heat retention, heats evenly, and loves a campfire, unlike flimsier pans. Fry up a mess of catfish, roast a chicken, or bake an apple crisp in this generous 12-inch pan that features two handles for heavy lifting, and two subtle side lips for pouring. While the skillet comes preseasoned to prevent food from sticking, it works best when sprayed or lightly coated with vegetable oil before use. Whether used in a kitchen or camp, this virtually indestructible pan should last for generations.--Ann Bieri

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! September 10, 2010 Suzy (Stockton, CA United States) I love this skillet! I wanted to switch over from our nonstick (Teflon) cookware and my husband & I debated about our options. He hates cleaning stainless steel, but I wanted a more healthy option for our family. Finally, after doing some research, we decided to try out cast iron. AND WE LOVE IT!! This cookware is fantastic. Heats food evenly and retains heat - it even seemed to do a better job of heating up pasta sauce on the stove quicker than our teflon pot did. I'm so happy with our purchase - I can't wait to expand our collection!
Every kitchen should have one September 9, 2010 Muddy Mudskipper (Houston, TX) I use this more than any other pot/pan in my collection - it is THE BEST skillet for searing meats. My husband & I live in an apt so grilling steaks is a hassle...but we don't miss it much b/c this skillet is totally made of win. It even works well on our awful (but pretty) glass-top stove. Yes it's heavy, but it's freaking cast iron - what do you expect? That's why there are 2 handles, and use mitts for both when the pan is hot. I use salt to clean it, similar to this method, with a few tweaks:

Cast iron also produces the best cornbread, so I've used it for that as well. I just bought a Lodge cast-iron grill pan as well, can't wait to use it!
Amazon has a problem packing this item. August 28, 2010 Foot Guy (NY) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am sorry I gave this one star. My other Lodge products are very good. Problem is Amazon packed this poorly, and the handle cracked during shipment...TWICE.
The first time the handle cracked off. Then the replacement the handle stayed on, but there is a very visible and significant crack in same area!!!
They were shipped in a box that allowed movement of about two inches side to side, with padding only on top.
Very disappointed in Amazon.
It will rust August 24, 2010 B. Cianflone 1 out of 12 found this review helpful
If rust forms on the skillet, it will be toxic, and it will give one brain damage. That is a fact. Now we know that Lodge Logic has its employees post comments and acting as customers saying that rust is good for you and so forth. This is the same technique Toyota uses to have its people write on automotive blogs saying that Toyota cars are safe and no one has ever died in one due to defects. There have been serious cases of illness from using these pans.
